This Hoya Multi-Coated Neutral Density (ND) Filter is an essential accessory for any photographer's camera bag. ND filters reduce the amount of visible light that enters the lens, allowing the user to utilize wider apertures or slower shutter speeds, particularly in bright conditions.

ND filters work especially well for portraits by allowing the photographer to reduce the depth of field, producing pleasant background blur while keeping the subject in sharp focus. These filters are also often used to emphasize movement by permitting slow shutter speeds in bright light, giving life to photos that would otherwise look frozen in time.

This particular filter (HMC) is multi-coated to minimize reflection on the filter surface, which reduces flare and ghosting, and produces sharp contrast and well-balanced color. An ND4 filter reduces the amount of light by 2 stops.

They are available in five variations. 122 - B1 graduated blue filter reduces the light 1 stop. 123 - B2 graduated blue filter reduces the light 3 stops. 123L - 2X Light starts with the same neutral density as 122, but feathers the blue almost from the color edge and more gently graduates to clear. One stop of compensation. A123S - 8X Is the same density of color as 123M but the graduation extends to 3/4 of the filter. Requires 3 stops. 123F - 8X Full is the same as 123S except that the blue covers the entire filter. Requires 3 stops

This versatile filter acts like a dimmer switch for your telescope, toning down the brightness of the Moon or planets to a level that is comfortable. The reduction in brightness and glare unmasks detail in your viewing subject and greatly improves contrast. The filter consists of two high-grade glass polarizing filters in a rotating cell that allows you to adjust the amount of light transmission from 1% to 40%. Such control is highly desirable for lunar observing because the Moon's brightness varies with its phase. The filter is great for terrestrial observing too, especially on sunny days. The filter has an anodized aluminum cell, which threads into the barrel of any standard eyepiece. Now available in 1.25" and 2" sizes. Storage case included.

A UV filter is one of the most important filters to own and it should be available for every lens. The filter blocks the invisible UV rays which can cause a loss of sharpness. The use of the filter is particularly recommended for work in the mountains, at the ocean, and in areas with very clear air. The contrasts are heightened, and distorting fog is avoided.
